Professor, Doctor, Major General (Retd) Muhammad Rafiq Zafar, HI(M), is a highly experienced general surgeon and urologist with over 20 years of teaching, clinical, and administrative experience in Pakistan Army, Navy, and civil armed forces hospitals. His expertise includes kidney stone disease, renal transplantation, laser prostatectomy, and laparoscopic urological surgery, and he played a pioneering role in introducing PCNL and laparoscopic surgery in the military healthcare system. He also served as lead transplant surgeon at AFIU and Master Trainer in endo-urology and kidney stone surgery. During the war against terrorism, he managed complex trauma cases at CMH Peshawar and operational areas of 11 Corps. He additionally commanded the Armed Forces Institute of Urology for nearly five years, where he led modernization initiatives and played a key role during the COVID-19 pandemic.
