Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, Nov 2020

The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation, and Coordination, in collaboration with the World Health Organization held a 03-day workshop on “Lactation Management and Implementation for the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative” at Fauji Foundation Hospital, Rawalpindi from 26-11-2020 to 28-11-2020.
Facilitators included Dr. Noreen Nishtar from WHO, Dr. Khawaja Masood from the MoNHSRC, Dr. Paras, Dr. Sohail, and Dr. Samina Naeem. This was presided over by Dr. Baseer Acakzai, Director Nutrition Program, MoNHSRC.
Chief members from Fauji Foundation Hospital, Rawalpindi, taken on board were Brig (R) Prof Dr. Naila Azam, HOD Community Medicine, Brig (R) Prof. Munir Akmal Lodhi, HOD Paediatrics, Dr. Azra Saeed, HOD Gynaecology and Obstetrics, and Dr. Naushaba Naubahar, Senior Quality Assurance.
Participants included faculty members as well as trainees of the aforementioned departments, along with members of the nursing staff.
Commandant of FFH Rawalpindi, Major Gen. Salahuddin Qasim Hi(M)(R), showed great interest and commitment to the implementation of the BFHI to make FFH Rawalpindi the first hospital in Pakistan to receive WHO certification.
The chief members agreed upon the formation of an internal committee including senior members of the departments of Community Medicine, Gynaecology and Obstetrics and Paediatrics, in association with the hospital administration to ensure timely and effective implementation of the BFHI and subsequent accreditation by WHO.
