OBESITY CLINIC of PHYSICAL MEDICINE

Overview

·         Obesity is defined as abnormal or excessive weight accumulation that presents a risk to health. Health care providers use the body mass index (BMI) to define obesity in general population. 

  • BMI of 30 or higher is the usual benchmark for obesity in adults.
  • BMI of 40 or higher is considered severe (morbid obesity).

Prevalence

·         According to world obesity federation more than 1 billion people in the world are now living with obesity, nearly 880 million adults and 159 million children and adolescents aged 5 to 19 years.

  • The prevalence of overweight individuals (BMI≥25) is higher among men (34.1%) than among women (27.5%).
  • The prevalence of obese individuals (BMI ≥ 40) is higher among women (11.5% then among men (6.9%).

·         The state of the art facility of Inbody testing is available at Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department of Fauji Foundation Hospital.

In body test

·         It helps evaluate an individual’s health status by analyzing body composition in just 60 seconds. It provides detailed analysis of body weight including total body water, proteins, minerals, percentage body fat, lean body mass and skeletal muscle mass. It also reveals visceral fat analysis, BMI, obesity degree as well  as target body weight an individual should strive to achieve.

Rehab Specialist Review

·         After thorough evaluation by Rehabilitation Specialist, a muscle strenghting program is designed along with stretching’s, gym activities, aerobic and endurance training in order to achieve target weight.

Nutritionist

·         If needed, a proper diet plan is also given by nutritionist available at Fauji Foundation Hospital.
